SINN Féin Councillor Tony Hassan has welcomed the news that patrols by the PSNI local policing team and a neighbourhood policing team found underage drinkers at Culmore point the  subsequent seizure of a quantity of alcohol.

He also praised the use of the PSNI helicopter in efforts to stop car crime across the city.

Councillor Tony Hassan said: “I welcome a number of policing operations at the weekend to curb underage drinking in the Culmore area and the use of the helicopter in efforts to target car rime in the city.

“There is no one single solution to the issue of underage drinking across all districts of our city.

“But we need to come at the problem in a variety of ways.

“On this occasion it was the intervention of the local policing team and a neighbourhood policing team.It also means looking at how people purchase alcohol.

“Looking at how alcohol is sold and marketed; and it means supporting vital community based initiatives that provide education, advice, counselling and intervention.”

He added: “The move by the PSNI against car crime is to be welcomed. It’s an issue Sinn Féin has been highlighting for some time and will remain high on our agenda in the times ahead.”
