THE Galliagh Community Empowerment says its protest last week at ongoing anti-social behaviour has already led to an increase in trouble on the streets.

Residents turned out last Friday night to show their opposition to ongoing incidents involving young people driving around in cars and carrying out other criminal acts.

In a message on its Facebook page, the GCE group says: “It’s been a quiet week so far, we believe this is due to the engagement we’ve been having on the ground with the youth who foolishly find themselves involved in antisocial behaviour.

“We know that this sort of thing is still happening but since we’ve started this page and our interactions with the community, we have noticed a big decrease.

“It is no longer a daily occurrence.

“We are starting to see the light.

“We will continue interact daily with the community.”

The news has been welcomed by the people of Galliagh.

Others say similar groups should be set up in the likes of the Creggan where there is ongoing problems with anti-social behaviour by young people.
