MOB OF YOUTHS SET FIRE TO VAN IN BOGSIDE

PSNI crestDETECTIVES in Derry are investigating after a van was set on fire during trouble in the Bogside last night.

Around 50 youths were involved in the arson attack which at Westland Street around 11.45 pm.

 

The youths involved took the van from outside the owner’s door.

But after only being able to move it a few yards down the street, they then set it on fire.

Fire fighters crews were alerted to the blaze and race fcrom Northland Road station to put it out.

But an hour later the youths returned and hurled a petrol bomb at the small van in a botched bid to set it ablaze again.

The roaming youths were not finished and tried hijack another another van in the area.

However, that attempt failed as the owner was able to drive it away and safe his property.

It was the second vehicle to be torched in the area within 24 hours.

On Monday night, a car was set on fire at the flyover at nearby Lecky Road.
