SINN FEIN MINISTER TO UNVEIL NEW RESIDENTS’ PARKING SCHEME IN BOGSIDE

bogside4rSINN Fein Roads Minister Chris Hazzard is expected to announce a parking scheme to help sort out the car parking nightmare for residents in the Bogside.

Sources at Stormont say details of the scheme, to provide up to 400 spaces, will be unveiled tomorrow, Wednesday, July 6.

The scheme, which was first proposed back in 2007, materialised after residents started to experience problems finding car parking spaces near their homes.

A Sinn Fein source said: “The Minister has been fully briefed by local MLAs and councillors about the ongoing problem and has made it a priority to get it sorted.

“He hopes that this scheme will solve the problem once and for all and allow the residents to park their cars near their own homes.

“Basically it will mean each house holder will get a free permit to park in the area.

“Anyone who parks in the area and doesn’t have a permit will be fined.”

Under the new proposals which are expected to rolled out later this year, the Minister has agreed to introduce parking permits in William Street; Little Diamond, Abbey Street; Rossville/Chamberlain Street; Fahan Street; and St. Columb’s Park Wells.
