MAYOR of Derry City and Strabane District, Alderman Hilary McClintock, will host a Superhero Day ‘Pink’ Tea Dance and help paint the town pink as part of a calendar of events in aid of her chosen charities for the coming year.

Ald. McClintock met this week with representatives of Action Cancer and Tearfund to discuss plans for a series of activities also aimed at raising awareness of their work.

Speaking afterwards, the Mayor said: “I was delighted to meet this week with representatives of both charities which are close to my heart, with the aim of creating awareness and fundraising on their behalf over the coming year.”

Ald. McClintock also expressed her thanks to the Midwest Young Artists Conservatory from the US who performed in the Guildhall on Wednesday, June 22nd and, the Honourable the Irish Society for the Guildhall Organ concert on Sunday, June 26th, with both events donating proceeds to the Mayor’s Charity.

There will be further opportunities in the coming months to support the work of Action Cancer – whose mission is to save lives and support local people through cancer awareness, prevention, detection and support – and Tearfund, the relief and development charity working in partnership with Christian agencies and churches worldwide to tackle the causes and effects of poverty.

The Mayor’s Fun Day, a free family-friendly event, will take place in the Guildhall on Friday, August 12th at 4pm.

Preparations are also underway for the Mayor’s ‘Pink’ Tea Dance on October 5th to coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness Month and, a ‘Paint the Town Pink’ Campaign by Action Cancer.

Young people – and the not so young – will also be encouraged to don their favourite costumes for the Mayor’s Superhero Day provisionally scheduled for October/November.

Looking ahead to next year, the Mayor’s Charity Flag Day will be held on March 17th, followed by the Mayor’s Charity Sponsored Walk on April 8th 2017 and Mayor’s Charity Jazz Event on April 27th 2017.

There will be also be other events announced in the coming weeks and months. Check the website for updates at www.derrystrabane.com/mayor
