C & M'S PANTRYWITH summer well and truly in the air, the third Walled City Market which takes place this Saturday 2nd July, is set to be buzzing.

Thanks to investment by Derry City and Strabane District Council, the Walled City Market has been given a major boost and offers a wide variety of quality artisan food and craft produce on the first Saturday of every month.

If you want to add a little sweetness to your summer, then be sure to visit Michael and Cathy Quigley at C&M’s Pantry.

This is a market stall that will certainly tantalise the taste buds, with their tasty range of top quality, freshly handmade bakery goods.

With an array of cakes, biscuits, bread and savoury bakes, jams, chutneys and other relevant seasonal pantry goods, all produce is handmade at home for market. C&M’s Pantry only use fresh ingredients bought locally and follow the best traditional old -fashioned recipes.

Speaking about his business Michael says; “My wife Cathy and I started C&M’s Pantry just over two years ago.

“In October 2013 Invest NI, in conjunction with Derry City Council, launched a Market Start-Up Programme organised by Council.

“The programme was intended to enable people to launch or develop a business through market trading, so C&M’s Pantry was opened to the community through a series of markets.

“After taking part in the programme we signed up as regular traders at the Council’s Monthly Walled City Market. We are registered as a food producer with the Council and have score of 5 in our hygiene rating.

“Two years on from our first market, we devote our spare time to producing good, old-fashioned, no nonsense, honest, food.

“We have been hugely heartened by the local support we have received from some very loyal customers.

“We have also had the success of being awarded a Bronze in the Artisan Marmalade category for our Orange & Butternut Squash Marmalade with chilli, ginger and cardamom and a Certificate of Merit for our Orange & Beetroot Marmalade at the World Marmalade Awards.

“Our vision is to have an attractive stall, locally, where customers can be guaranteed very high quality foods, which have been carefully prepared, using good quality ingredients, at a decent/fair price.

“At our stall, customers will be valued and treated courteously and professionally.”

Nicolle Walters is Derry City and Strabane District Council’s newly appointed Market’s Development Officer says she is delighted with how the markets have been going to date.  “

“Thanks to the lovely weather and the dedication from traders and Council, June’s market was marvellous!

“There was a real buzz on the day and I was approached by a number of potential traders who expressed interest in becoming involved, which in itself was great feedback and showed us that already the Walled City Market experience was a very positive one.

“We are hoping that this weekend’s market will be another huge success and that the sun comes out!.”

The market will operate from 10am to 4pm, on the first Saturday of every month.
