MAN ARRESTED AFTER STOLEN CAR CRASHES INTO CREGGAN HOME

Police securityppicPOLICE in Derry have released a man for further inquiries after he was arrested following in incident involving a stolen crashed car.

The man was detained after the stolen car crashed into a garden of a house in the Creggan area at the weekend.

The car smash happened around 7 pm at Ballymore Park.

Police say a silver Vauxhall Astra careered out of control and smashed into a garden where a young girl had been playing just a few minutes earlier.

The driver was detained by local people at the scene.

The PSNI were alerted a mobile police patrol soon arrived and arrested him under the Road Traffic (NI) Order for a number of motoring offences including dangerous driving and driving a stolen vehicle.

The man was taken to Strand Road police station for questioning.

A PSNI spokesperson said the arrested man has been released on bail pending further enquiries into the incident.
