WORK BEGINS ON OLD BUDGET SITE AT STRAND ROAD – COOPER

SINN Féin Councillor Mickey Cooper has welcomed the start of major work at the old Budget and Xtravision complex located on Derry’s Strand Road.

The work will eventually see a new shopping units there creating up to 100 new jobs.

He was speaking after discussions with  local residents over concerns about associated work.

Councillor Cooper said: “I welcome the news that work is to start on site  which will comprise of  the demolition of the ‘Xtravision’ unit and taking the former Budget unit back to the steel frame.

“I have also been assured that the main contract works will then commence early August and that part of it will involve the  tidying up the existing landscaped slope.

“This will include trimming back the trees backing onto Pennyburn Court and McCartney Park, which was a concern to local residents.

“As this work progresses I will be in contact with the contractors and residents to ensure any concerns are raised  are dealt with as speedily as possible,” he added.
