ON YOUR MARKS, GET SET GO…..

Time  is running out for people to sign up as ‘pairs’ for Centra’s Run Together 5k fun run, at the Quay Walkway, Derry next Wednesday 22nd June at 7 pm.

Leading convenience retailer Centra has developed the new series of fun runs to feed the recent upsurge in ‘social runners’ in Northern Ireland whilst raising funds for local charity, Action Cancer.

Runners of all ages and abilities across Derry and surrounding areas are encouraged to sign up to the event in ‘pairs’.

The aim is to ‘run together’ to help each pair motivate one another around the 5k course.

The inaugural Centra Run Together took place in Belfast’s Ormeau Park on Sunday 5th June with over 150 people taking part.

The third event will take place in Mid Ulster in September and the finale of the series will be in Belfast in October.

Online entry for the Derry~Londonderry event closes on Monday 20th June and to enter go towww.centra.co.uk/runtogether  with event updates at www.facebook.com/CentraNI

Owner of Centra Derry, Trench Road, David Kelly, said: “With the launch of Run Together, Centra is aiming to promote healthy lifestyles and encourage physical and mental wellbeing throughout communities in Northern Ireland.

“The Derry event will give local people the chance to pair up with your brother, daughter, colleague or partner, to get involved in a local community event, help raise funds for Action Cancer and hopefully have a lot of fun!” he added.

Gillian Thomson, Corporate Fundraising Officer for charity partner Action Cancer said: “Centra Run Together is a great new concept to encourage people to team up and raise funds for those affected by cancer.

“Cancer touches so many people from all walks of life and all profits and sponsorship money from this event will go towards helping families throughout Northern Ireland by delivering life-saving services right to their doorstep.

“I would encourage anyone whether they’re seasoned runners or looking to get fit, to run for a reason to help raise vital funds for Action Cancer”, she added.
