New SDLP Limavady Councillor John Deighan

A DERRY National League medal winning keeper has been selected as its latest SDLP councillor.

Goalkeeper John Deighan was part of the Derry panel who won the National League in 2008.

The 33-year-old has been selected by the SDLP in Limavady to fill the vacancy on Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council.

It follows the electionof Gerry Mullan as an MLA for East Derry last month.

John is a married father-of-two and is involved with the Limavady Wolfhounds GAC.

He said he is looking forward to his work as councillor.

“I’m delighted to have been selected by the party to represent Limavady on Causeway Coast and Glens Council,” said John who is works for a recycling company.

“Over the course of the next few weeks I’ll be listening very carefully to the concerns of local people and working with my council colleagues to support and enhance our local community.

“I’m very excited about the opportunity to deliver real change for our community.”

East Derry MLA Gerry Mullan said John is a “wonderful addition to the SDLP team in Causeway”.

He added: “John He is a very bright, intelligent, independent young man who will be a tremendous asset to the SDLP team, and I wish him well.”.
