THE Walled City Music Festival is just around the corner and boasts a stunning line-up of guest artists from the world of classical music.

As part of this year’s concert series, the festival will partner with Ulster University for a second year running to showcase the wonderful talents of the music students in their end-of-term performances and recitals.

On Friday, June 3, an array of musicians across the full musical range from classical to jazz, pop and rock will perform in two concerts – a lunchtime concert in Christ Church featuring classical performances on piano, clarinet, harp and voice, followed by an evening concert in Cultúrlann featuring jazz piano, traditional flute, folk vocalists and rock bands.

Students and audiences will also be treated to performances by trumpeter Dr Linley Hamilton and guitarist Julien Colarossi and to inspirational words from members of two of Ireland’s best-known acts, Moya Brennan from Clannad and Mickey Bradley from The Undertones. BBC broadcaster Lynette Fay will compere the evening.

Professor Frank Lyons, from the School of Creative Arts and Technologies at Ulster University, has been working with the students throughout the year and said:

“The main focus of both events is to provide our finest performers with an opportunity to showcase their talents in the professional concert arena in front of a capacity audience, which will include key figures from the creative industries such as our special guests and other invited dignitaries.”

With such a range of musical styles and tastes on offer, a night of high-quality music making and an end-of-term party atmosphere are guaranteed.

Friday, June 3, Christ Church, 1.15pm

Friday, June 3, Cultúrlann, 7.30pm

Admission for both concerts is free of charge.

The Walled City Music Festival will take place from 2nd to 5th June. For all festival information visit www.walledcitymusic.com.

Also appearing is well known pianist Jeremy Denk.
