Sister Clare is fondly remembered in this picture smiling and playing her guitar,

REQUIEM Mass will be held at lunchtime today for Sister Clare Theresa Crockett.

Her remains were reunited with her sorrowing family in Derry on Friday night when they are repatriated back from Ecuador.

The deovted nun was tragically killed almost a fortnight ago when an earthquake of 7.8 magnitude struck Ecuador

The 33-year-old was trying to shepherd children out of a school where she worked at Playa Prieta when the staircase collapsed under a large tremor.

Her remains were flown into Dublin airport on Friday before making the long journey by road to Derry to her heartbroken family.

Following a wake at her parents home in Iona Court, Brandywell, her remains will be removed this morning, Monday, May 2, at 11.20 am for midday Requiem Mass at St Columba’s Church, Long Tower.

Following Requiem Mass, Sister Clare will laid to rest in the City Cemetery.

Sister Clare Crockett was among hundreds killed when Ecuador was struck by the huge earthquake on April 16.

She had been in the country teaching children with the ‘Home of the Mother’ organisation and was trying to save the lives of five young people as she died.

Sister Clare’s family have led the tributes to her following news of the tragedy, describing her as a “superstar”.

They said she had died “as she lived, helping others.

Last week Masses were said in Jacksonville, Florida, where she worked before going to Ecuador, and also in Rome to celebrate her memory.
