PASSENGERS on a Belfast to Barcelona plane recorded the moment when two women from Derry were escorted off a plane by Spanish police after cabin crew accused them of being “abusive and disruptive”.

The women were among a group of 14 who flew to the popular Spanish tourist city for a 50th birthday celebration.

According to the Belfast Telegraph, the episode was captured on video.

It is said to show them swearing at cabin crew as they are led off the plane by police after landing.

Fellow passengers described how the two became “loud and disorderly during the flight, swearing at staff, playing music’ and at one point allegedly joking about having a bomb.

An unnamed passenger said: “When the two got on you could tell they had been drinking. They were loud and they kept playing music during the fight.

“The stewardess asked one to put the speaker away and she wouldn’t.

“Then she did and brought it back out again. Then they started verbal abuse and saying: ‘We are all here for a f****** party’.

“There was more insulting, more verbals and bad language which created a bad atmosphere.”

A friend who was sitting beside them then moved away and when the stewardess refused them alcohol this caused more agitation.

The passenger added: “They shouted at her, and then the brunette was joking when she was going to the toilet and said: ‘I’m a suicide bomber, sure I am’.

“Which is a thing you don’t say on a plane, but she said it as a joke.

“People knew she didn’t mean it, but you could see she was upsetting a lot of people. I was told when the Spanish police came on board there were a couple of children crying.”

One of the party remained vocal throughout the ordeal and can be seen protesting her friends’ innocence.

At one point she is told to be quiet by another passenger.

Addressing the cabin, she said: “We are all the one party. They knew rightly she had a drink in her.

“She didn’t abuse anybody and didn’t annoy anybody around her.

“There was no need for it. I have 24 witnesses she was not abusive. This is ridiculous.”

Her comments led to staff asking if she would like to be escorted off the plane by police as well.

The male passenger added: “The whole thing was just them being loud and obnoxious, giving the staff the fingers and basically being extremely rude.

“The staff wouldn’t allow them any more alcohol and that annoyed them.

“One of them broke down crying and got very emotional and friends in their party tried to calm them down. I’m thinking this is 10.30am on a Wednesday,” he said.

An EasyJet spokeswoman confirmed the flight was met by police and the women were escorted off.

The airline added that it did not tolerate any “abusive or threatening behaviour” from passengers to cabin staff.
