Derry courthouseA man left fighting for his life in hospital following a dissident republican gun attack in Derry was due in Bishop’s Street Courthouse today to stand trial on drug dealing charges.

Harry Boyle, from Lawrence Hill in the city was shot twice in the right leg around 9 pm last night in the Creggan area.

The 25-year-old was gunned down in Magowan Park which is a new housing development on the grounds of a former school.

He remains in a critical condition.

Boyle was first treated at Altnagelvin Hospital before being transferred to a specialist trauma team at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.

He still is unconscious after losing a lot of blood at the scene of the attack.

Boyle’s case was listed for trial in Court 4 of Derry Crown Crown today.

He denies charges of possessing Class B drugs with intent to supply, three counts of possessing a controlled drug, offering to supply a Class A drug, Fentanyl, and offering to sell a controlled drug of Class C, namely Diazepam,

The case has now been adjourned as a result of the shooting incident.

The PSNI believe dissident republican paramilitaries may be responsible for the shooting.

Local police chief Supt Mark McEwan branded the attack as “barbaric”.
