SSE AIRTRICITY PREMIER LEAGUE: MCCORMACK BACK FOR DERRY CITY IN TRIP TO LONGFORD TOWN

Conor McCormack returns to Derry City squad

Conor McCormack returns to Derry City squad following a suspension

DERRY City make the trip to bottom side Longford Town tomorrow night, Saturday, April 16 (kick off 7.30 pm).

The Candy Stripes welcome back Conor McCormack from suspension for the game.

It has been a fantastic start to the season so far for the Brandywell side.

After the away defeat to Finn Harps on  the opening game of the campaign, Derry sit in 2nd place with just goal difference separating them and table toppers Dundalk.

Derry have won five and drawn 1 and the team is start to click together on the pitch.

Last season the sides had one victory each and drew the other game, but the final day win for Town ensured they secured sixth spot in the Premier Division just ahead of Derry.

City boss Kenny Shiels has injury concerns over Niclas Vemmelund, Barry McNamee and Nathan Boyle who has a flu bug

Even though Longford are propping up the table, Shiels is still expecting a tough game.

“They’ll be highly charged and motivated for this fixture and we have to be as well,” he said.

“We have to be confident and strong in our heads, stay away from complacency and treat the game as a top of the table clash and prepare like that.

“Longford are better than their position suggests, I have seen them and they are getting players back this week.

“The early penalty against them last week didn’t help, it gave Dundalk momentum and you know what Dundalk’s like when they have momentum, so I felt sorry for them last week, because they were very unlucky.”

Tomorrow night’s game at the City Calling Stadium will be live on Drive 105.3 FM from 7.20 pm.
