POLICE are studying CCTV footage in a bid to identify young people who smashed windows at a Derry college with urooted trees.
A total of 14 windows were smashed at St Cecilia’s Sports Pavillion on Fanad Drive, close to St Mary’s Church in Creggan.
The trees were pulled up out of the ground and used as battering rams to attack the windows on Saturday evening around 5 pm.
Local Sinn Fein Councillor Kevin Campbell said local people were outraged at the wanton criminal damage by children as young 12.
The alarm was raised by a local taxi driver who witnessed those behind the attack.
“It is absolutely scandalous, and the community here is disgusted,” said Cllr Campbell.
“School budgets are tight enough as it stands without having to pay the repair bill for this.
“We do not want to turn our school estates into fortresses with barbed wire and I am appealing to parents to make sure they know where there children are at and what they are doing.”
He added that if those are identified their homes will be receiving a visit over the criminal damage.
