A woman is in a critical condition following a crash in Co Donegal this morning.

The crash happened near Netowncunningham on the main N13 Letterkenny to Derry road around 8.30am.

The crash involved two vehicles and two people are understood to have been removed to Letterkenny University Hospital.

The emergency services were on the scene within minutes of the accident happening.

It is the latest in a series of bad crashes on the same stretch of road.

The road remains closed while Gardai carry out a full forensic examination of the scene.

Senior Gardai are also at the scene.

Donegal County Council has issued a statement telling people to take alternative routes.

The statement said: “Due to an accident on the N13 at the Burrow Brae Junction near Newtowncunningham, the road has been closed and a short traffic diversion (via the Burrow Brae and Newtowncunnigham Main Street) is in operation.

“Traffic coming from Inishowen and Derry directions towards Letterkenny is being diverted along the Burrow Brae and through Newtowncunnigham Main Street while traffic from the Letterkenny direction is being diverted via Church Road Newtowncunnigham and on to the Burrow Brae / R238 to Killea.

“Minor delays are expected.

“Donegal County Council would like to thank all road users for their patience and co-operation on this matter.”
