Cllr Brian Tierney urges residents to be vigilant after robbery of elderly woman in Galliagh

SDLP Councillor Brian Tierney has condemned those behind an overnight break-in and theft of an elderly lady in the Glencaw Park area of Gallaigh.

He has warned other local residents to be vigilant at this time.

Councillor Tierney said:

“I was absolutely disgusted to hear of this incident on a vulnerable woman who lives alone.

“As I understand it, at around 4am on Sunday morning, a plant pot was thrown through the window of her house in Glencaw Park.

“A large sum of cash was stolen.

“Other local properties were also targeted, but no other thefts were reported.

“I have spent time with this lady this morning and she is terrified and in a vulnerable state. I have also spoken to her neighbours who are frightened for their safety.

“I utterly condemn this incident and urge local residents to be vigilant against attempted break-in such as the one that occurred last night.”
