Raymond McCartney justiceSINN Féin MLA Raymond McCartney has welcomed Minister of Culture Carál Ní Chuilín’s announcement on progression for academies for both the Irish language and Ulster Scots.

He said: “I welcome the fact that the Culture Minister Carál Ní Chuilín has stated that she is committed to the establishment of academies for both the Irish language and Ulster Scots.

“These academies are about the promotion of cultures that make up our heritage and identity and will add to expanding the experience of those involved in the Irish language and Ulster Scots.

“The Minister has listened to the consultation from both the Irish language and Ulster Scots communities and I welcome the fact that she is planning to situate the academies in places that have the potential to maximise participation from those communities.

“This is the latest in a line of commitments to develop both the Irish language and Ulster Scots and I look forward to these academies coming on line in the months ahead,” added the Foyle MLA.
