DERRY police chief Supt Mark McEwan has commended four Omega personnel for their bravery in protecting a local woman from a man armed with an iron bar.

In January, Omega employees alerted police to a domestic incident in Derry in which a man was threatening to harm the woman.

He had appeared at the bottom of stairs leading to the woman’s flat and began to shout threats to her.

Two of the workers prevented him from climbing the stairs.

He took a metal bar from his sleeve and threatened the workmen.

At this time two other workmen appeared and escorted the man from the premises.

About 15 minutes later, the man returned and was once again prevented by the workmen from going up the stairs.

He then brandished a black handled knife from his sleeve.

All four workmen restrained the man until police arrived and arrested him.
