Social Development Minister Lord Morrow

SOCIAL Development Minister Maurice Morrow has welcomed the start of a Neighbourhood ReStore scheme in each of the four Neighbourhood Renewal Areas in Derry.

The project will see the rejuvenation of up to 22 properties in Rosemount Avenue, Bishop Street Without, Strabane Old Road and Galliagh under the ReStore scheme.

Lord Morrow said: “My Department’s funding of up to £314,000 for this ReStore project will be a fantastic boost to some of the most deprived areas of the city.

“The scheme will renew shop frontages in these local commercial areas, making them more attractive and welcoming.

“These commercial areas are in the heart of our local communities and their refurbishment will reinvigorate existing premises whilst also attracting new businesses to areas.

“This is the first time my Department has extended the ReStore scheme into Neighbourhood Renewal Areas in the North West and I welcome the contribution it will make to economic regeneration.”

The construction works have started recently and will be finished by early summer.

HMD Architects will oversee the project which will be carried out by a number of local contractors.
