COOPER WELCOMES COUNCIL SUPPORT ADDITIONAL BROOKE PARK DISABLED FACILITIES

wheelchair accessible swingSINN Féin Councillor Mickey Cooper has welcomed the announcement made by Derry City and Strabane District Council that they will be exploring options to install additional disabled facilities in the new Brooke Park when it opens later this year.

He said: “I am pleased that council has agreed to provide additional support to install disabled facilities in the new Brooke Park.

“This is in addition to the substantial match funding provided by council to allow the development to proceed.

“Unfortunately, when the original consultations on Brooke Park took place the issue of a wheelchair adaptable swing was not identified which meant it was not included in the designs or budget for the park.

“After discussions with council and the Outer West Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership I’m glad that progress has been made on finding new monies to address the issue which is obviously a massive boost to the families of people with disabilities who can now avail of the facilities that council support will provide.

“This will enhance the new Brooke Park even further and I look forward to the official opening later in 2016,” added councillor Cooper.
