Mark Farren hands upDRUMAHOE and Maginn Park will fall silent this evening to remember the ‘legend and gentleman’ that was Mark Farren.

The 33-year-old tragically died last Wednesday after he bravely battled the ravages of an aggressive brain tumour.

Tonight, tributes will paid to the late Derry City striker at both ground in counties Derry and Donegal.

Derry City are are playing two games simultaneously with both 7.30 pm kick offs.

A minute’s silence is to be held the annual McKee Cup game against Institute at Drumahoe.

Maginn Park in Buncran will fall silent for 60 seconds as the Candy Stripes take on an Inishowen Select.

The games are the first time the Brandywell club has been in action since the death of the club’s all time highest goalscorer.

A minute’s applause will also be held in the 18th minute at both games in recognition of the number 18 jersey worn by magical Mark.

As a mark of respect, Derry City has now retired Mark’s No 18 shirt.

A friendly game against Ballymena United which was penciled in for last Friday night at the Ballymena Showgrounds, was cancelled also as a mark of respect to the later player and his sorrowing family circle.

Last Saturday, Glenavon fans (pictured bottom) remembered Mark ahead of the side’s Irish Cup game.

They carried a banner in tribute to the former Derry City man who was laid to rest on Friday after a long battle with cancer.

Glenavon players and fans travelled to Donegal for the funeral of the Greencastle man.

A minute’s silence was held before kick-off, with fans joining in a minute’s applause in the 10th minute in memory of Mark who wore the number 10 shirt during his time with Glenavon.
