THE SDLP in the North West has two new MLAs today.

Waterside councillor Gerry Diver was joined by party leader Colum Eastwood when he signed up as an MLA at the Assembly..

Gerry replaces veteran SDLP politician Pat Ramsey in the Foyle constituency.

Mr Ramsey stepped down on December 31 as an MLA due to health reasons.

The other new North West MLA is Daniel McCrossan.

He replaces West Tyrone MLA Joe Byrne.

Mr Diver and McCrossan will now contest their respective seats in the forthcoming Assembly elections in May.

The new SDLP leader hopes to win more seats this May with a new and younger looking team of candidates.
