Eastway railingsSINN Féin Councillor Kevin Campbell is calling on Transport NI to fix the safety railings on Eastway Road.

The railings were damaged over the Christmas period.

Now councillor Campell said the railings need fix as a matter of priority.

Said Cllr Campbell:  “I worked with the DOE a number of years ago to have these safety railings erected as there were a number of near misses with school children crossing the road to get to either St Cecilia’s or St Johns primary and play school.

“The railings act as a safety buffer for residents living in lower Creggan and people going to the local schools or the Ráth Mór shopping centre.

“I have been in contact Transport NI today to have the railings fixed as a matter of priority.

“At present they are lying on the footpath causing an obstruction and people with prams have to move out onto the road to get past.”
