DETECTIVES from the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team have today arrested a 26-year-old man over the murder of Paul McCauley in Derry nine years ago.

Mr McCauley, a 38-year-old father of one, died in June this year.

He was critically injured in 2006 in a sectarian attack in the city’s Waterside area.

The arrested man has been taken to Coleraine police station for questioning.

He is the ninth person to be arrested since Mr McCauley tragically died in June.

One man, Daryl Proctor, has been charged with murder and another has been reported to the Public Prosecution Service.

DCI Michael Harvey, the senior MIT detective leading the investigation, said police enquiries into the murder were “very much ongoing.”

“I would like to thank those people who have so far come forward to assist us since Paul’s death.

“I would continue to ask anyone with any information to contact detectives at Maydown police station on the non-emergency number 101 or use the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Mr McCauley had been attending a summer BBQ at the rear of a house in Chapel Road on July 15, 2006.

DCI Harvey added: “The momentum in this investigation is continuing.

“Detectives are available to speak with anyone who decides they want to talk to us.

“Even after nine and a half years, it is not too late to do the right thing and come forward.”
