MAYOR WELCOMES GLOBAL IRISH NETWORK TO DERRY

Elisha McCalion mayorMAYOR of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr Elisha McCallion and the Cathaoirleach of Donegal, Cllr Ciaran Brogan will co-host a delegation from the Global Irish Network at a reception in Magee this week.

The delegation will be in Derry this week as part of the Global Irish Economic Forum‘s event being held in Dublin from 19-21 November.

The Global Irish Economic Forum is organised by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Welcoming the delegation to the city, the Mayor said the visit was an excellent opportunity for Council to showcase its vibrant business start-up scheme in the North West and to tell the city and district’s positive story in terms of innovation, talent and skills base.

Prior to the Mayoral reception, the group will visit the Fort George Innovation Centre showcasing at first hand the excellent range of social entrepreneurship projects that are taking place at the centre and the LYIT Co Lab as part of the North West Science Park partnership.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, the Mayor said the visit by the Global Irish Economic Forum delegates was significant for the city, providing an excellent forum to network and connect with Irish and Irish connected figures across the world.

“We are delighted that Derry is one of the locations chosen to host the regional Forum meetings. It’s our chance to showcase what we have to offer and the real positive steps we are making in terms of job creation, business ideas, entrepreneurship and innovation.

“It will present us with new opportunities to showcase what we have to offer and to look at possible development opportunities for the future.”

She praised the ongoing partnership arrangement with Donegal County Council and the positive work being done by both Councils.

“Our membership of the Northern Irish Connections is vitally important in bringing this visit to Derry and in allowing us to make positive connections and links with partners across the globe and enhance our efforts to engage with our Diaspora and tell our positive story.” she added.

Among the delegates expected to participate in the Derry event at Fort George Science Park, are, Peter Casey: Executive Chairman – Claddagh Resources; Elizabeth Francis: Founder – Atelier Francis – Italy; Caroline Murphy Siam Piwat Co Ltd – Thailand Dr Susan Walsh – Director/Dean: Globe Business College Munich – Germany; Naomi Scott.

Local companies expected to participate in the showcasing are: The Nerve Centre; Culture TECH; General Innovation; Young Influencers; CoFunder / Seedups (based Fort George, Derry); Modern Democracy (based Fort George, Derry); Biznet (based Fort George, Derry); MCL Services (based Fort George, Derry); Qubizm (based Fort George, Derry); HidInImage (based Fort George, Derry); WiSAR  (based Letterkenny CoLab); Arklu  (based Letterkenny CoLab); Uppiddee Inc (based Letterkenny CoLab); Consilium Education (based Letterkenny CoLab); FireCloud365  (based Letterkenny CoLab).
