stopandsearchPOLICE are searching the Ballycolman and Beechmount Avenue areas of Strabane this evening.

The PSNI say the searches are part of ongoing inquiries into violent dissident republican activity in the area.

British Army Technical officers are the scene carrying out follow up examinations.

It is understood that the focus of the police searches are at the site of the former Adria textile and shirt factory on the Derry Road.

The PSNI have confirmed officers heard three loud bangs in the area.

But as yet the search teams haven’t found any strike marks on the building.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to ring police in Strabane on the 101 non-emergency number.
