Car thievesSDLP Councillor Brian Tierney has condemned those behind a car theft in Derry last night which has left the family of a young man with cerebal palsy without any transport.

The car was later found burned out in the Gallaigh estate.

This is the second car theft to be reported over the past three days in the area with the first car being found under similar circumstances.

Said Cllr Tienery: “I was absolutely disgusted to hear of this act of mindless destruction.

“The reprehensible action of those behind this demonstrates that they are both selfish and despicable. They have seriously disadvantaged this family to recklessly endanger lives by joyriding.

“The victim of this crime was completely dependent on this car as a means of transport as her son is living with cerebral palsy.

“Losing it will seriously hamper her ability to allow her son to live comfortably and independently.

Cllr Brian Tierney condemns those behind the theft of the car

“They have lost the car along with everything inside including a pram and other equipment.

“This latest theft comes shortly after a similar incident on Saturday night and must act as a warning for everyone in the area to be vigilant against the dangers of car thieves who appear to be very active in the area.

“I have contacted the PSNI to request increased patrols in the area.”
