SINN Féin MEP Martina Anderson has met with the new Chief Executive of the Special European Programmes Body, Gina McIntyre, in Omagh.

Following the meeting, the Derry politician said:

“I was delighted to meet with Gina in her new role and we had a very positive meeting. We discussed a whole range of new and ongoing projects, highlighting the importance of EU programmes to our area.

“We examined in great detail the workings of the North West Health Innovation Corridor that has been ongoing for three years now, as a partnership between industry and health related statutory bodies, with its focus on job creation on a cross border basis.

“Gina informed me that an application for INTERREG, a financing instrument of European regional development, has been developed for cross border health services. I have supported and promoted the NWHIC project since my time as an MLA and during the standing up for Derry campaign. It is a programme that has the potential to work so well and provide first class opportunities.

“The first call opens on 2nd October until the beginning of January and is open to applications from across the health sectors. Applications should demonstrate a level of cross border working and cooperation and should be aligned to relevant govt policies north and south.

“Following this, in February, there is a scheduled call for research and innovation, which would be targeted more at our academic institutions and SMEs. Some of the sectors eligible to apply are health and life sciences, renewable energy and research intuitions.

Ms Anderson continues,

“We also discussed Peace IV funding, of which a draft programme has been shared by SEUPB to the European Commission. The Peace III funding provided €333 million towards assisting operations and projects to reconcile communities and contribute towards a shared society for everyone. It is hoped that Peace IV will have the same progress towards a peaceful society and I encourage all interested parties to keep up to date via my website www.martinamep.eu for further information on calls for applications.”
