Foyle Memory Walk 2014MAYOR of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr Elisha McCallion is calling on the public to come along and support the annual Alzheimer’s Society’s annual Memory Walk scheduled to take place this weekend at Ebrington.

Raising awareness of dementia and providing support to sufferers and their families is one of the Mayor’s key objectives during her Mayoral year.

It’s an issue very close to the Mayor’s heart as her elderly grandmother suffers from dementia and she is keen to do all she can to raise awareness of the issue.

The Memory Walk this Sunday, September 6, includes two challenges to suit all abilities – 2km and 10km.

She said: “The Alzheimer’s Society annual Memory Walk is a great way to support the charity and help raise awareness of dementia.

“I am delighted to be taking part in the walk and showing my support to the charity and the great work it is doing across the city and district.

“The event coincides with the Waterside Half Marathon and it promises to be a great day for the city when thousands will be out and about running or walking and keeping fit.

“For those of you keen to take part, please come along on the day and be part of the Walk.

“If you are unable to take part then please donate generously to the charity, donations can be made directly to the Mayor’s Office, Council Offices, Strand Road,” she said
