DERRY MAN NEED STITCHES TO HIS FACE IN VICIOUS MOB ATTACK

policePOLICE in Derry are investigating a vicious ‘Dirty Joe’ assault in the city at the weekend.

They are appealing for information about the assault on the man in his 20s who was attacked from behind by a gang of youths.

The victim sustained facial injuries when was kicked and punched by up to eight attackers in the street.

Investigating officer Constable Forbes revealed the victim sustained a laceration above his right eye requiring seven stitches when he was attacked by a group of seven or eight youths as he made his way past St Patrick’s Primary School, Collon Lane.

The assault occurred between 11.00 pm and midnight on Sunday, August 30.

Const Forbes said: “He was attacked from behind and knocked to the ground before being kicked and punched by several people.

“Anyone with information can contact myself or other officers on the 101 non-emergency number.

“Alternatively information can be passed anonymously through the Crimestoppers Charity on 0800 555 111.”
