SDLP Foyle MLA Colum Eastwood has called on management at Maydown Precision Engineering – now Schivo NI – to meet with representatives from the trade union Unite to discuss the concerns of workers at the company.
Speaking after an SDLP delegation met recently with Unite, Mr Eastwood said:
“I am calling for Maydown Precision Engineering management to meet with Unite and hear the concerns of the workforce.
“Unite represents more than 60 core workers at the company and historically have had a good relationship with management.
“There are obvious concerns for those workers who are being made redundant, and it is clear to me that it would be beneficial for all involved if management would engage fully in discussions with Unite.
“There is a long history of trade union involvement at this site and the SDLP support the right of staff to unionise and work together.
“We have made representations to the CEO of Schivo NI Seamus Kilgallon and hope that he will engage positively with Unite as soon as possible.”
