A NUMBER of homes near a graveyard have been evacuated over a bomb alert.
Police in Strabane had earlier warned the public to be vigilant.
They are also advised not to touch any suspicious objects but to report them to the police immediately.
The warning comes after a report that a device has been left in the Townsend Street/Cemetery Road area of the town.
Several homes near the cemetery have been evacuated as a precaution although nothing yet has been found.
The cemetery has been closed whilst a search operation continues in the area.
Local traffic diversions are in place and members of the public and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
Anyone who notices any suspicious objects is asked to phone the police immediately on the 101 non-emergency number.
