A camera has been stolen from a man in Derry in a terrifying incident for the victim, police say.

Shortly after 11pm on Thursday July 23, the man was walking at Abbey Park in the Bogside area when he was approached by a man wearing a hooded top with his face covered.

Constable Kearney, the investigating officer, said: “The local man was walking home after taking photographs on the quay.

“He was approached from behind by another man who grabbed his top and demanded that he hand over a camera.

“The robber said if the camera was not handed over he would stab the owner. No knife was seen, but the man handed over the camera.

“The robber then ran off across Abbey Park and Fahan Street into Lisfannon Park.”

The robber is described as being about 6ft tall and of a thin build. He was wearing a dark hooded top and grey tracksuit bottoms with white trainers. . The camera stolen was a Canon D5 Mk3 DSLR and was fitted with a 24/105mm lens.

Information can be given on the police non-emergency number, 101, or by calling the Crimestoppers Charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
