burglarDETECTIVES at Strand Road in Derry are appealing for information about a number of weekend burglaries.

Two houses at Brewster Close, which is off William Street, were entered on Saturday night or the early hours of Sunday.

Car keys were taken from one house and used to unlock a car, from which a sum of money was stolen.  Money was also stolen from a nearby house.

Appealing for information, Detective Inspector Lindsay Kitson said police were keen to hear from anyone who saw suspicious activity.

Detectives have also appealed for people in the city to lock their doors at night and remove money or valuables from cars.

Meanwhile, police are also seeking information about a burglary at Newbuildings.

A commercial building at Victoria Road was broken into on Saturday night and a winch from a tow truck was stolen.

Information can be given on the police non-emergency number, 101, or by calling the Crimestoppers Charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Police have once again advised home owners to secure their property properly in a bid to thwart burglars.
