£30,000 reward offered to catch the killers of teenager Jonathan Cairns 16 years ago

THE parents of murdered Jonathan Cairns are meeting senior detectives today to discuss their ongoing investigation to catch his killers.

Hazel and Raymond Cairns were contacted last week by the the PSNI’s Major Inviestigation Team who are conducting fresh inquiries into the murder.

The couple say the phone call about the meeting “came out of the blue”.on Friday.

It has sparked fresh hope that police are making progress in the case to bring to book those who murdered his son.

A Facebook page has been launched to help catch the killers of Jonathan Cairns.

It was launched a week after the Derry Daily reported that a £30,000 reward has now been offered to put the teenager’s killers behind bars for a long time.

The family hope the page would bring forward fresh information.

The 18-year-old teenager was battered to death after a night in at a disco in Ballykelly in April 1999.

The murder investigation was re-opened by PSNI senior officer Detective Chief Inspector John McVea in 2012 in the hope of getting fresh information about the killers.

A message on Justice for Jonathan Cairns Facebook page reads: “Can people please share this page via the share page link as this will help to take it far and wide as there is someone out there who may have been in contact with someone who may have slipped up some way back , and if them people read through the page they may realise what the slip up was, we need your help to nail these Cowardly animals and to remind them that Justice is on its way/

“They are living a life which Raymond, Hazel, Sharon and William cannot do fully until they know why their son Jonathan was snatched from them at the start of his adult life.

“One share could mean the killers could be caught so please please share .

“Any information please Call the Police, Crimestoppers or this page via PM.

“You will have my word no names will be published to the page for anyone who gives information , we are on a messenger of justice for Jonathan !

“Thanks.”
