Aaron McDonald, one of the victims of the early morning fatal accident near Derry.

AN 18-year-old arrested over the deaths of two young relatives in yesterday’s horror car crash has been released, police say.

Aaron McDonald, 19, and 21-year-old Michael McDonald lost their lives after the black Volkswagen Golf they were passengers in hurtled off the road.

The two lads lived in Donemana, Co Tyrone. Both had been educated at Strabane High School.

The accident happened in the early hours of this morning outside Derry between Magheramason and Newbuildings.

The PSNI says the 18-year-old driver has been released pending further investigations.

His brother and cousin died in the accident, friends say.

A 16-year-old girl escaped serious injury when the car left the road, hit a tree and split in two around 3.30am on Wednesday.

The PSNI has described the incident as horrific.
