ANTI-PAEDOPHILE CAMPAIGNER: ‘I’VE HAD DEATH THREATS’

Mr McCloskey has lodged his appeal

A DERRY man who names and shames paedophiles online has revealed that he has received death threats.

Joe McCloskey is currently before the courts after one pervert took HIM to court for naming the pervert on social media.

McCloskey – and social media site Facebook – lost the case and were ordered to pay money to the paedophile.

However both the local man and Facebook are appealing the case.

Joe insisted what he does is far from easy; and has had serious affects on him. He has lost friends and received threats.

“People think my job is easy. I can tell you all something it’s far from it,” he said.

“When a sex offender commits their offence it sends a ripple like a stone in a pond. It’s like a tsunami hitting land with devastating effect.

“It destroys everything it comes in contact with. I feel so sorry for all the family members that has to deal with the aftermath. Some believe it and some don’t but if you support a sex offender in my eyes you are just as guilty.

“I’ve lost quite a few friends, or people that I thought were my friends over me posting their loved ones’ names on my Facebook and am sure I will loss many more.

“Most of the country supports what I do but when it hits there own doorstep it’s a different story.

“I know sex offenders destroyed my up bringing and the effect it’s had on my family has been catastrophic. It moves down through the generations and I’ve done everything in my power to make sure my kids are in the safest environment possible.

“If you have been my friend or following me for the past 3 years then you will all know the battle I’ve had in keeping this Facebook going. It hasn’t been easy running to court every other week, the cops coming and raiding the house to take all the iPads, laptops, phones.”

Added Joe: “I’ve had threats that I am going to get shot –  other people say they are going to cut my throat. This is the *** I have to deal with.”
