DURKAN: BOMBERS ARE ENEMIES OF DERRY

crawford squareSDLP Foyle Westminster candidate Mark Durkan has strongly condemned those responsible for last night’s bomb attack at the Probation Office in Crawford Square, describing them as ‘enemies’ of the people of Derry.

Mr Durkan said: “I have mixed feelings about this bomb attack on the Probation Office in Crawford Square – relief that no one was injured, but disgust that anyone could carry out an attack of this nature with the devastation and potential death that could have been involved.

“What we have here is a group of people who think that somehow they are helping Ireland by planting bombs or viable devices in a built-up residential area.

“By messing up the lives of families and leaving young children in hysterics they somehow believe this is striking a blow for Ireland.  And of course it is nonsense.

“At some point it has to twig with them that all they are doing is simply proving their own capacity to undertake violence.  At some point it is going to twig with them that they are not making any significant political or strategic advance on any issue or cause.

“We have been very good at pointing out that other things here are anti-Derry. Yet, those responsible for carrying out this despicable attack have shown themselves to be literally enemies of the people of this city.”
