The proposed new Glen Road development which has angered residens

RESIDENTS in Derry are up in arms over plans for a new housing development on the Glen Road.

They vented their fury at officials Apex housing association during a public meeting on Wednesday.

Apex wants to build 8o new social houses and a community centre.

But residents have given the plans the bums rush saying it will lead to more anti-social behaviour, traffic snarl ups and the loss of a green field.

Some claim the new development will block out light to their homes.

However Apex chief executive Gerry Kelly hit back saying anti-social behaviour was not always as a result of social housing.

“Some people are very supportive of the development and it comes down to weighing up the need for social housing.

“We’re here, we’re the landlord and we’ve invested heavily in this scheme so we’ll be there to deal with anti-social behaviour and to get families to live in harmony.”

The plans will be discussed soon at Derry’s newly formed super council.
