60 jobs to go as B & Q to shut Derry store

Pat Ramsey MLA has confirmed that B&Q staff contacted him concerned about their futures, revealing the store had passed an inspection 24 hours before staff were told they are losing their jobs.

“This is a sad day for Derry. The B&Q staff informed me that the decision to close the store was revealed to them on Tuesday night. No dates or support plans were revealed and staff are now left in a position where their future is uncertain,” said the MLA.

“I am calling on B&Q management to enter into open and honest negotiations with these employees.

“They should not be left blowing in the wind while decisions on their futures are withheld from them.

“I call on management to end the uncertainty faced by the employees and their families and I will be seeking a meeting with B&Q as a matter of urgency.”

Apparently the store had only just passed a regional inspection the previous day to the announcement that it was to close in early 2016.
