DERRY POLICE CHIEF MOVED: SAYS FLEADH WAS HIGHLIGHT OF TIME IN CITY

The Police Service has confirmed that former Foyle Area Commander Jon Burrows is to transfer to a new role from April 1.

Inspector Burrows was based in Foyle from 2005, and was Area Commander from 2010 to 2014.

Following his tenure in Foyle, he transferred to Response Policing in G District. He has now transferred to Banbridge PSNI.

Inspector Burrows said today: “I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the North West, and as commander for Foyle in particular. A particular highlight was commanding police operation at the highly successful Fleadh Cheoil na héireann in 2013 and working to engage with the entire community.

“Derry-Londonderry brings policing challenges of its own. In my time here there have been many major – and momentous – events. Some of those involved tragedies for families throughout our community; others added to a sense of history in a place that is already noted for it.

“What has impressed me most is the willingness of a vast majority of people here to work for the future.

“These are people of good faith, and from all backgrounds. They have a belief that this city has as important a future as it has a history. I wish them all well and will remain a friend of the city.”
