Sinn Féin’s Gearóid Ó hEára has said that the consultation launched by DCAl Minister Carál Ní Chuilín is an opportunity for the Irish language community to help shape Acht Na Gaeilge. headshot

Mr Ó hEára said, “The consultation launched by Carál Ní Chuilín provides an opportunity to shape legislation to protect the rights of Irish speakers.

“The Irish language is a living language with more and more people using Irish on a daily basis and these people have a right to conduct all their business through Irish.

“Acht na Gaeilge is a commitment under the St Andrews Agreement and will help bring equality for the Irish language community, including access legal rights.

“The Irish language is a threat to no one and people should embrace diversity by engaging with the consultation which will last for twelve weeks.

“The consultation can be accessed on www.dcaini.gov.uk/index/quick-links/consultation.htm and I would urge people to make a submission before the 12 week consultation period ends.”
