crime-alert-300x220DETECTIVES are investigating a terrifying incident in the city last night in which a takeaway food delivery van driver was kidnapped and beaten.

The man was abducted in the Ballymagroarty area in what was a well-planned operation.

The victim managed to run into a house but his kidnappers – who were masked and armed – dragged him out of the house and drove off in his Citroen Berlingo.

The vehicle was later recovered in Marianus Park in Hazelbank.

The man was battered and threatened and dumped on the Letterkenny Road after a terrifying ordeal.

He suffered a number of injuries as a result of the assault.

Police are waiting to interview the victim later today in an effort to piece together the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Detectives at Strand Road are appealing for information from anyone who saw the van or any suspicious activity at Marianus Park between 10pm and 11.30pm last night.

Information can be given on the police non-emergency number, 101, or by calling the Crimestoppers Charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
