limavadysignSocial Development Minister Mervyn Storey has welcomed the start of Public Realm works in Limavady Main Street which will see an investment of £290,000.

The works, taking place between Linenhall Street and Market Street will upgrade the pavements, kerbs, street lighting, litter bins, seats and parking areas.

Minister Storey said: “Main Street is a well used commercial area in the centre of Limavady which has retained much of its historic character. The completed work will enhance its original features and create a quality Public Realm, complementing improvements already funded by my Department on Market Street, Catherine Street and Linenhall Street.

“This £290,000 scheme will bring my Department’s investment in Public Realm enhancements in Limavady to over £1million and illustrates the continued commitment to the implementation of recommendations from the Limavady Town Centre Masterplan.”

The project has been designed and will be delivered by Transport NI on behalf of the Department. Work is expected to be completed by the end of March.

Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy said: “This is a much needed Environmental Improvement Scheme. The scheme has been designed by our Roads Service Consultancy team and White Mountain Quarries have been appointed to carry out the works.”

The scheme will see the upgrade of six street lighting columns, six litter bins, six seats, 1000m2 parking surface, 1000m2 high quality pavers and 300m kerbs.
