SDLP Shantallow councillor Brian Tierney has urged local children to try new sports during a series of academy events hosted by Leafair Community Association.

Local sports clubs will facilitate the academies in hurling, athletics, Gaelic football and soccer for children from 7-16 years old at Leafair 3G pitch over the next few weeks.
Tierney said, “These academies will provide a great opportunity for our young people to have a go at hurling, Gaelic football, football, and athletics – all under the guidance of experienced coaches from local clubs.

“The academies are free of charge and I would encourage our young people to get involved and try something new.”

“The academies in hurling, Gaelic football, soccer and athletics are suitable for beginners and will be hosted over the next few weekends, beginning this Sunday.

Hurling – Sunday, February 8, soccer – Sunday, February 15 and 22, Gaelic football – Saturday, February 28 and athletics – Saturday, March 21.
