562944_107430072726148_257632208_nTHE funeral is taking place this morning of a GAA player who died suddenly during a training exercise.

Steven Deeney, who was 32, collapsed at Roe Valley Leisure Centre in Limavady, Co Londonderry last Thursday night.

He was given treatment at the scene before paramedics arrived, but he later passed away.

Steven’s funeral will take place at St Aidan’s Chapel in Magilligan this morning followed by burial in the adjoining graveyard.

Tributes have been paid to the St Aidan’s Club player, whose death has left the GAA community and local people shocked and saddened.

The devoted father-of-two lived in nearby Castlerock but had strong family connections to Magilligan.

He has been remembered as a popular young man who was the heart and soul of his club, where he has played since he was a boy.

President of Ulster GAA Mairtin Mac Aibhne said: “Our condolences have been sent to the family and the Officers of the Club.

“Our Thoughts and Prayers are with Steven’s family and the entire Magilligan community at this difficult time.”
