10917309_927002427330728_198984114911797997_nCRIME ALERT: THIEVES are operating in the city tonight – smashing car windows and robbing what they can get their hands on.

A car belonging to a young family was damaged in Rosemount.

MLA Pat Ramsey described it as a “disgraceful act of vandalism”.

He went on: “This couple was visiting in the area and came out to this, which has left them very upset and distressed, they have twin babies and a young son.

“Shame on those responsible.”

He asked for witnesses to contact police.

But the incident has sparked fears those behind the vandalism and theft are operating in the city overnight.

And it has sparked a wave of anger from fed-up citizens who feel Derry is now being over-run by hoods who, they believe, are getting away with their crimes.

They have been venting that anger on social media this morning – with warnings to other areas about the incident.

“What has happened to our city?” said a Derry Daily reader.

“We are being over-run with this scum; it wouldn’t have happened during the worst days of the troubles.”
