OVER-worked nurses at Altnagelvin Hospital have been praised today as they struggle to cope with a large number of patients.
MLA Pat Ramsey has expressed concern at the lack of staff.
One patient says she has been astonished at how staff have been trying their best to cope.
“The staff are trying their best in situation that they are in; they are being stretched beyond capacity,” said the patient who has been in Altnagelvin since Sunday.
“It’s packed but care hasn’t been affected at all. Nurses and auxiliary staff are fantastic. Nurses are being brought from other departments and wards to help ease the pressure..
“God help them I’ve only admiration for them all. Just goes to show the impact on cost cutting though and the pressure it puts on staff left behind to deal with it. They are absolutely fantastic.”
